Commenting on the news that the UK Government is to provide an additional £400,000 for S4C, Shadow Culture Minister, Suzy Davies AM, said: “This is a welcome development for S4C; and further proves how the Welsh Conservatives work constructively with the UK Government to achieve the best outcomes for Wales.
“Contrary to the tired old mantra from Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party that the Conservatives don’t understand Welsh broadcasting, this commitment reaffirms the Prime Minister’s dedication to strong Welsh language channel.
“We have consistently made it clear that we disagree with S4C funding cuts and – following constructive meetings with the Secretary of State for Culture; and UK Government colleagues; this progress is positive news for Welsh broadcasting.
“Welsh Conservatives have a proud record of delivering for Welsh language broadcasting and we will continue to fight for S4C; to ensure it gets the best deal possible and has a bright, viable future.”
Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, John Whittingdale, announced earlier today that an extra £400,000 of funding is to be made available to S4C for the next financial year. This means that S4C will have the same amount available to them for 2016/17 as they have for 2015/16.
