As we begin the Spring Term in lockdown, I’ve compiled resources and activities to help make home learning a little easier!

  • Hwb is the digital platform for learning and teaching in Wales. Hwb provides its users with access to a range of centrally-funded, bilingual, digital tools and resources for all subjects: https://hwb.gov.wales/repository/discovery?sort=recent&strict=1
  • BBC Bitesize offers easy-to-follow lessons for home learning, as well as collections of resources for all ages and all subjects: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize
  • The BBC is also expanding programming to help students throughout lockdown by broadcasting school programming from 9 am on CBBC. It will also have broadcast two-hours of programming for secondary school students on BBC2.   • The Children’s University of Manchester website has different online interactive learning materials on a range of topics for primary students: https://www.childrensuniversity.manchester.ac.uk/learning-activities/

  • For older students, Panjango offers a virtual world of work and maps the curriculum to work‑related challenges: https://panjango.online/user/login
  • From the Telegraph, Gojimo is a revision app offering over 40,000 practice questions for GCSE and A-Level subjects. It also offers Goji Life that offers practical help such as stress management, essay writing and future planning. Find out more here: http://www.gojimo.com/
  • A collection of online resources from the British Library is available, relating to History, English, Religious Studies, Citizenship and a variety of other subjects: https://www.bl.uk/learning/online-resources
  • The Royal Institution is offering lectures and videos from world-leading scientists and writers, including the Christmas Lecture series: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheRoyalInstitution/videos
  • Animations on genetics, evolution, biology and chemistry for primary school students: https://www.youtube.com/c/StatedClearly/videos
  • Maths games to entertain young children working at a KS1 and KS2 level. It covers sums, shapes, graphs, geometry and logic: https://www.mathplayground.com/
  • NRICH provides thousands of free online mathematics resources for ages 3 to 18 from the University of Cambridge, covering all stages of early years, primary and secondary school education: https://nrich.maths.org/secondary
  • An online coding tool that encourages children to create stories, games and animations from scratch. Designed for children aged between 8 and 16, it also offers a simplified version for those aged 5 to 7: https://scratch.mit.edu/
  • Designed to teach children how to code, this offers easy-to-follow guides for programming: https://studio.code.org/courses

The Shadow Education Minister – Suzy Davies MS – has said that each day that passes shortens the odds for externally set and marked assessments for students in Wales, and will do little to allay students’ fears over inaccurate or unfair assessments.
