Calls for Ford to “resist compulsory redundancies” at Bridgend plant | Galw ar Ford i “wrthsefyll diswyddiadau gorfodol” yn ffatri Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr

Commenting on the news that employees at Bridgend Ford are considering strike action in reaction to the threat of large-scale redundancies, Russell George AM, Shadow Minister for Business, Economy and Infrastructure, said: “This latest news is very disappointing.

“There has been significant uncertainty for Ford workers over a number of years and I would have expected the Welsh Government to have be more proactive.

“The Government must reach out urgently and speak with Ford; the workforce need certainty about their futures.

“I urge the First Minister to act to do all he can to protect the factory from downscaling.”

Assembly Member for South Wales West, Suzy Davies AM, added: “My thoughts are with the employees of Ford Bridgend at this tense time, as we wait for any news to arrive from the company.

“The reported threat to up to 900 jobs is the latest in a series of blows and there’s only so much anyone can stand. The stress on families is immense.  I’m not surprised that strike action is being considered but I hope that the Ford will resist compulsory redundancies from within a workforce whose excellence the company itself recognises.

“The Welsh Government has been quiet on this issue this week, but it’s time they stood up for the workers of Bridgend and tackled Ford for some answers.”

Wrth sôn am y newyddion bod gweithwyr yn Ford Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr yn ystyried gweithredu streic mewn ymateb i'r bygythiad o ddiswyddiadau ar raddfa fawr, dywedodd Russell George AC, Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Fusnes, Economi a Seilwaith: “Mae'r newyddion diweddaraf hwn yn siomedig iawn.

“Bu ansicrwydd sylweddol i weithwyr Ford dros nifer o flynyddoedd a byddwn wedi disgwyl i Lywodraeth Cymru fod yn fwy rhagweithiol.

“Rhaid i'r Llywodraeth estyn allan ar frys a siarad â Ford; mae angen sicrwydd ar y gweithlu am eu dyfodol.

“Rwy'n annog y Prif Weinidog i weithredu i wneud popeth o fewn ei allu i amddiffyn y ffatri rhag disgyn.”

Ychwanegodd Aelod Cynulliad dros Orllewin De Cymru, Suzy Davies AC: “Rwy’n cydymdeimlo gyda gweithwyr Ford Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr ar yr amser hwn, wrth i ni aros i unrhyw newyddion gyrraedd y cwmni.

“Y bygythiad i hyd at 900 o swyddi yw'r diweddaraf mewn cyfres o ergydion a dim ond cymaint y gall unrhyw un sefyll. Mae'r straen ar deuluoedd yn enfawr. Nid wyf yn synnu bod gweithredu streic yn cael ei ystyried ond gobeithiaf y bydd Ford yn gwrthsefyll diswyddiadau gorfodol o fewn gweithlu rhagorol y mae'r cwmni ei hun yn cydnabod.

“Mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi bod yn dawel ar y mater hwn yr wythnos hon, ond mae'n amser iddynt sefyll-lan dros weithwyr Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr a mynd i'r afael â Ford am rai atebion.”
