Suzy Davies, Welsh Conservative AM for South Wales West, has welcomed a French twinning delegation to the National Assembly for Wales.

St. Sebastien-sur-Loire, a  suburb south of Nantes in France, has been twinned with Porthcawl for twenty years.

To celebrate their 20th anniversary a delegation of 28, including the Mayor of St Sebastien sur Loire, visited Porthcawl in July and were hosted by Porthcawl Town Council and Twinning Association.

As part of the visit Mrs Davies, whose South Wales West region includes Porthcawl, invited the French delegation and representatives from Porthcawl to visit the Welsh Assembly and learn more about the role the Assembly and AMs.

Suzy Davies said “It’s always a pleasure to welcome constituents come to the Welsh Parliament.  It was a special privilege to organise for Porthcawl Town Council and St Sebastien sur Loire members to visit the Assembly and show them how I work to make sure that Porthcawl and Bridgend County Borough are represented.

“Porthcawl is a great place to visit for tourists and so I hope the relationship between Porthcawl and St Sebastien sur Loire can continue for at least another twenty years so that even more visitors can some to the area.”

The Town Twinning Charter was signed by the two towns on 21st March 1999 and has seen visits between the two towns take place every other year since then.

Porthcawl Town Councillor Bobby Lewis, who is also involved with the Twinning Association, said “The reception we held at the Assembly was excellent and everyone who attended really enjoyed themselves and learnt a lot.

“A big thank you to Suzy Davies for organising out visit and for hosting us and answering our questions throughout the day.”
