AM calls out Welsh Government for adding to Tata jobs uncertainty | Mae AC yn galw Llywodraeth Cymru allan am ychwanegu at ansicrwydd swyddi Tata

Following the news that up to 1,000 jobs could be cut from the Tata Steel workforce across the UK, Suzy Davies, Welsh Conservative AM for South Wales West, said: “This news and the uncertainty of what it means for Wales is extremely distressing for all of the Port Talbot Tata Steel workers and their families.”

Tata Steel are yet to confirm where the cuts will fall and what this means for Wales and, in particular, their steelworks at Port Talbot.

Mrs Davies added “I wrote to Welsh Government over a week ago and called for an urgent update on what discussions they had held with Tata Steel Europe and what restructuring plans might mean for Port Talbot.

“The response I had from Ken Skates, the Economy Minister, was that he received a call from Tata Steel giving him a ‘likely timeline’ for staffing changes.

“However comments like this from the Minister just add to the uncertainty for everyone involved. If Welsh Government are trying to reassure workers they should give us more information about what they were promised by Tata Steel, what the implications are for jobs locally, and, importantly whether this latest announcement is different to what Welsh Government were told just a couple of weeks ago.”

Yn dilyn y newyddion y gallai hyd at 1,000 o swyddi gael eu torri o weithlu Tata Steel ledled y DU, dywedodd Suzy Davies, AC Ceidwadwyr Cymreig Gorllewin De Cymru: “Mae'r newyddion hyn ac ansicrwydd yr hyn y mae'n ei olygu i Gymru yn drallodus iawn i weithwyr Port Talbot Tata Steel a’u teuluoedd."

Nid yw Tata Steel wedi cadarnhau eto ble bydd y toriadau yn cwympo a beth mae hyn yn ei olygu i Gymru ac, yn benodol, eu gwaith dur ym Mhort Talbot.

Ychwanegodd Mrs Davies “Ysgrifennais at Lywodraeth Cymru dros wythnos yn ôl a galwais am ddiweddariad brys ar ba drafodaethau yr oeddent wedi’u cynnal gyda Tata Steel Europe a beth allai cynlluniau ailstrwythuro ei olygu i Port Talbot.

“Yr ymateb a gefais gan Ken Skates, Gweinidog yr Economi, oedd iddo dderbyn galwad gan Tata Steel yn rhoi‘ llinell amser debygol ’iddo ar gyfer newidiadau staffio.

“Fodd bynnag, mae sylwadau fel hyn gan y Gweinidog yn ychwanegu at yr ansicrwydd i bawb dan sylw. Os yw Llywodraeth Cymru yn ceisio tawelu meddwl gweithwyr dylent roi mwy o wybodaeth inni am yr hyn a addawyd iddynt gan Tata Steel, beth yw'r goblygiadau ar gyfer swyddi yn lleol, ac, yn bwysig, a yw'r cyhoeddiad diweddaraf hwn yn wahanol i'r hyn y dywedwyd wrth Lywodraeth Cymru dim ond cwpl o wythnosau yn ôl.
